Apart
from our silk-screened range that requires no particular
instructions, we retain our laser printed decals range. If
you are ready for a little extra effort, we also offer ink
jet printed decals. The choice is yours.
The
laser printed decals are the original
F-decals, similar to those widely available now. They are
easy to use and no particular precautions are required. They
work like regular waterslide decals.
Reliable
inkjet printers and decal papers and inks are now available.
Many modellers like this type of print so we are happy to
offer it as an alternative to laser print.
The drawback is that the ink is
not waterproof. The decal must therefore be sealed before
being put in water. This is an easy process since any solvent
based clear varnish will do. It is must be applied in light
coats - a thick coat could soak the decal and cause the ink
to run.
The basic varnishes available at
hobby shops can be used. If you are in the USA, one the best
will be Krylon Acrylic Cristal (available in the USA at Loews,
Home Depot, Ace Hardware or Walmart). Elsewhere, Humbrol Crystal
Clear Acrylic spray or Hannants' Xtracolor Gloss Varnish works
great. You may use Microscale Liquid Decal Film, but it will
need to be thined and sprayed.

Laser and inkjet decals are printed
on a continuous clear decal paper sheet : subjects
must therefore be trimed off.
They support decal softening solutions.
Laser
and inkjet decals are very transluscent and must be applied
over light coloured surfaces. When this is not possible,
we always provide templates for masking.
